K. Michelle did a fantastic job of keeping a relationship with Idris Elba under wraps. But on the tail of her new album, Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart, emotions are coming out, dirty laundry is being aired and the singer is opening up about Elba, with no holds barred.
Yesterday, the former Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta star broke down in tears when asked about Elba during a radio interview on the Russ Parr Morning Show.
“My thing is I feel like I protected you [Elba] for so long,” Michelle told the hosts. “There are my emotions that I deserve. I have to protect myself, and I have to deal with my emotions. I love him and always will.”
Michelle repeatedly said that he was a normal man and a good guy. However, she admitted that he had emailed her saying that he understood that her songs are her art, but he’s sad that it had to come to this.
“It’s not a hate thing,” she said shortly before breaking down in tears, forcing the hosts to cut to a commercial break. “We don’t hate each other. It’s the timing. It’s a timing thing, you know?”
She added that the revealing lyrics aren’t her attempt at telling it all, they’re simply a portrayal of her life.
“We keep certain things with us. It’s still private” she said. “But he knows with my music, I’m like a Black Taylor Swift. I’m going to write about you, and I’m going to talk about you. He really has no choice.”
