Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook’s history making NBA season has ended triumphantly.
The 28-year-old earned the league MVP award on Monday night and while accepting his award tearfully thanked his wife and college sweetheart Nina Westbrook.
“You hold me down. You keep me in check through good and through bad,” he said as he tried to keep it together on stage. “You make sure I’m on the right track and I’m so appreciative of you because so sacrifice so, so much for me every single day and I can’t thank you enough. As a wife in this league, to be able to sacrifice some of the things you sacrifice and everything that you do, I can’t put it in words and describe how thankful I am to have you in my life. You’ve blessed me with a beautiful son that I’m so thankful for. You continue to make me go. Every time I come home I just, regardless of a good or bad game, every time I see your face I just smile. It does nothing but brighten me up. I just want to say I love you and I thank you for everything you’ve done for me thus far. You’re the best wife a husband like me could ask for and I love you, Sugar. Love you very much.”
The couple met at UCLA, tied the knot in August of 2015 and in May welcomed their first child, a son named Noah.
After the night’s event, Nina celebrated the MVP of her heart on Instagram.
Westbrook made sure to thank all of those people who are most important in his life during his acceptance speech, even offering love and gratitude to his parents and his younger brother, Ray.
Signed to Jordan Brand, Russell received a major shoutout from the company for his latest basketball accomplishment.
Congrats Russ!
