Viola admits that in her younger years, she didn’t have much luck in the dating department. It wasn’t until she prayed for her husband, literally, that love found it’s way to her.
“I was the loneliest woman in the world, and someone said, ‘You should just pray for a husband.’ I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had children, who maybe had been married before…3 1/2 weeks later I met my husband.”
The couple met on the set of the CBS series, City of Angels. They shared a scene together and the rest is history!
Viola is a history maker in more ways than one but Julius is as well. The Austin Texas native accepted a full football scholarship to the University of Tulsa and he became the first African-American student in school history to graduate from the University’s theater program.
Julius speaks so highly on his wife. He told US Weekly, “She’s the sweetest woman. It’s so great to see her be all of who she is. That’s what I love about her.”
The Mr. and Mrs. have a production company together adorably called JuVee Productions which develops and creates independent projects across all environement platforms.
At the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards, Viola became the first Black woman to ever receive a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in How to Get Away With Murder as Annalise Keating. Of course Julius was there cheering the love of his life on!
In 2016 to celebrate 13 years of marriage, Julius and Viola renewed their vows and it was an all white affair with some of their favorite people!
