Searching for pre-sale tickets to Black Panther? Goodluck. Even Lupita Nyong’o, one of the film’s main stars, is having a hard time nabbing a golden ticket.
The actress, who plays Nakia, a spy and member of T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) elite all-female bodyguard group, Dora Milaje, tried to get advanced tickets but had no luck.
In a video shared to Instagram, Nyong’o said she realized a bit too late that she needed to purchase tickets after urging fans to quickly grab theirs. “Fifteen minutes later, I kid you not, 15 minutes later, I went to purchase tickets and they are sold out. Sold out!”
According to Variety, advanced tickets for the upcoming film, which went on sale Monday night, set a new record for Fandango as the top-selling Marvel film, beating Captain America: Civil War.
“Black Panther is riding an incredible wave of momentum right now,” Fandango editor Erik Davis told Variety. “It’s one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February, and its trailers have electrified the internet. Tickets have been going fast ever since pre-sales started on Fandango late Monday.”
Black Panther hits theaters Feb. 16.
