The illustrious Blue Ivy Carter has a résumé most adults would envy. Now, she is adding the title of the narrator to her list of experiences. It’s nothing to a boss!
Today, Matthew Cherry, author and director of the Oscar-winning short film Hair Love, tweeted a short clip of the Audiobook version of Hair Love, narrated by none other than little miss Blue herself. The book chronicles the sweet tale of a Black father and daughter who bond as he learns to style her hair for the first time. Audible provided a lengthier version of the clip, where Blue Ivy reads the following excerpt:
“When my hair is in two puffs, I’m above the clouds like a superhero! It even does magic tricks.”
As many already know, Blue Ivy isn’t new to lending her voice to various creative projects. This year, the young talent won her first BET Award for singing along with her mom Beyoncé on the song “Brown Skin Girl,” which lives on The Lion King soundtrack The Gift. The mommy-daughter duo also snagged an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Duo for the same record. To date, Blue Ivy also holds the record for being the youngest person ever to appear on the Billboard chart, thanks to her appearance on her dad’s song “Glory.”
Cherry, a former football player, launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund Hair Love in 2017 which raised more than $300,000. Sony Pictures Animation picked up the film in 2019, and subsequently released it in theaters in tandem with Angry Birds 2. Hair Love went on to win the 2020 Academy Award for Best Animated Short.
Not only is Hair Love available everywhere audiobooks are sold, but you can also look forward to a 12-episode series inspired by the film coming soon to HBO Max.
