Cardi B is owning up to her past after a video resurfaced of the rapper detailing how she “drugged” and “robbed” men when she was a stripper.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper took to social media Tuesday to explain and apologize after the video went viral.
“I made the choices that I did at the time because I had very limited options. I was blessed to have been able to rise from that but so many women have not,” she wrote in a lengthy post.
“I never claimed to be perfect or come from a perfect world with a perfect past,” she continued. “I always speak my truth. I always own my own sh-t.”
The resurfaced video, which the rapper says is three years old, seed Cardi exclaiming into the camera, “I had to go strip, I had to go, ‘Oh yeah, you want to f-ck me? Yeah, yeah, yeah, let’s go back to this hotel,’ and I drugged n–ggas up, and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do.”
While pointing out that other rappers “glorify murder, violence [and] drugs,” Cardi said she never glorified what she did in her past.
“Whether or not they were poor choices at the time, I did what I had to do to survive. The men I spoke about in my live were men that I dated, that I was involved with. Men that were conscious, willing, and aware,” she concluded. “I have a past that I can’t change. We all do.”
