“I’d like to continue on my journey with great health. I’m fascinated with how food heals the body and the holistic approach to health. I want to learn how to grow my own garden and cook healthier options for desserts. Drink more juice, and get yoga in every day — even if it’s only for 15 minutes. How am I gonna do it? Research about gardens and get going! My husband bought me a great juicer for New Year’s, so I now have no excuse. [My view toward yoga is this]: if you can make appointment for your hair, you can make appointments for workouts. So that’s what I intend to do.”
“Good lord! Although I have a million and one things I would like to accomplish in 2013, I would say bringing awareness about lupus to as many people as possible tops my list. My sister, Zenay Arnold, suffers from the autoimmune disease. She and I will continue to work with organizations such as the Lupus Foundation of America and to help educate others so we can get more resources and research in order to find a cure.”
“I am calling 2013 ‘Lucky 13′! My goal is to continue the work that I started in 2012. Now that I am an ’empty-nester,’ this allows me to focus on my career as I take it to MY next level. I’ve already begun by hosting a BlogTalk Radio Show ‘That’s So Very Vanessa,’ and I have produced a web series that will air in late spring. Lucky 13!”
“My ultimate personal goal is to complete a triathlon. This has been a desire of mine since a long-time acquaintance participated in and completed one in 2008. I was around while she was training and saw how disciplined and committed she was. I was completely impressed and proud of her accomplishment. I have never been a fan of working out, but I know the importance of it to my health. Since I’ve made a serious and life-changing commitment to my complete wellness — mind, spirit, emotional and last but not least, the temple that houses it all, my body — I’m devoted to acquiring and sustaining my optimal physique. What better way to start?”
“The one thing I’d like to accomplish in 2013 is maintaining a healthy mind, body and spirit while continuing to improve as a dancer and artist. I believe in surrounding myself with people who care and love me, will help to keep a clear focus for what I want to accomplish. More challenges, more hard work, I crave it!”
“I plan to direct another film that I’ve written and distribute another film by a fellow moviemaker. This has been my goal for the past two years. And with teamwork from my amazing colleagues, with a laser focus and with a happy heart — I’ve met that goal. I don’t see any good reason to stop now, and I wish non-stop goal-getting to anyone who wants it and works for it in 2013.”
“I’ve always loved New Year’s as a time to give thanks for all I’ve accomplished over the past year, while hearing from God regarding His plans and purposes for the new season. 2012 was an incredible year for me personally and professionally, culminating in the ultimate climax of getting married! In 2013, I intend to soar to the next level of my career by continuing to create rich, compelling characters in projects that inspire me, while achieving work-life balance by being a loving and attentive wife. My mantra for 2013 is Matthew 19:6- ‘With man this is impossible, but with God, ALL things are possible!'”
“My goal for next year is pretty simple: continue to share the laughs with as many folks as I can. As a radio personality, I’m very blessed to be a part of folks’ morning routine, and hopefully, start their day off on a good foot with some jokes. As a comic, I want to make people laugh by any means necessary — on stage, on the radio, the television and the big screen, too! Also, I want to expand my L.A.-based comedy club, the J Spot Comedy Club, to other locations nationwide. As a comedy club owner, I want to nurture up-and-coming comics, and give them a place hone their craft. I want to do my part to keep Black comedy alive and well.”
“Last year, I was blessed with some great TV projects and have learned a lot from the veteran actors I work with. In 2013, my goal is to book another great film role, so I’ve been working hard with my private acting coach. The support of my family is incredible, although I’m sure that I’m driving them crazy because I’m always dancing and singing around the house.”
“So many goals and so little time! For the new year, I want to get more organized in my own life. As a celebrity hairstylist — on and off camera — I’m always so busy working with little time to concentrate on me. Well, this year, I want to have some time to not only do a few chores and get my life in order, but also carve out some time for other passions and interests, like traveling. I think it will be interesting to see how other people live in other countries. Of course, Africa is on my bucket list. Plus, I’m sure my future travels will inspire a hairdo or two!”
“I’ve been incredibly busy for the last nine years building my career and traveling all over the world,” says ESSENCE “New and Next” singer Lira. “I really do feel the need to slow down for the first half of the year and reconnect with myself. I’d like to go somewhere quiet at least for a month. I know I’ll inevitably start writing again and end up in the studio, which is fine. I’ve planned to take February and March off and I’ll let the process develop from there. I look forward to an awesome 2013. I look forward to renewed energy and great prospects for personal and career growth.”
“In 2013 I would like to motivate and inspire as many people as possible to workout, eat healthy and enjoy a balanced life. I will do this by continuing to create new workout DVD’s like my new Cardio Kickboxing DVD and by collaborating with amazing clients like Kelly Rowland to motivate people to workout and eat healthy with our six week #SexyAbsBootcampChallenge on Twitter starting Jan. 7. I will continue to empower men and women to step into 2013 with confidence to pursue all of their dreams and goals.
“By the end of 2013, my goal is to debut a new one-woman show called Romejii: The Coming of Age Story of a Black, Female Classical Pianist. In 2012, I launched Superwoman Records, taught myself to rap and changed the way I put on concerts. I’ll spend the first half of the year writing the show, finding a venue and learning another surprise musical skill, then I plan to premiere it in New York by year’s end.”
