Ciara and Russell Wilson are one seriously happy newly married couple and they take their promises to one another very seriously. Their vow to say no to sex before marriage was iron clad.
Opening up in her cover for Cosmopolitan South Africa, the singer and soon to be mother of two shares that all of the credit goes to the Seattle Seahawks quarterback for making sure they stayed true to their promise to one another.
“I have to give credit to my husband for sharing those views,” she said. “It’s awesome how it all worked out.”
The ESSENCE Fest 2016 former goes on to add that it was friendship that helped she and Wilson get through the temptation of each other.
“I really believe that when you focus on a friendship, you have the opportunity to build a strong foundation for a relationship—and once you know you’re really great friends and you’re what we call ‘equally yoked,’ where you share the same values or the same outlook on life, it kind of sets the tone,” Ciara added. “Knowing that you’ll always have the friendship and that you can always go back to it is very important, and very powerful.”
As for making their decision public, the singer shared that she wanted her relationship to lead by example so that young girls know their bodies aren’t the ticket to love.
“You shouldn’t feel like you have to give your body away to get someone to like you,” she said before adding, “I think that people can learn from your experiences when they happen in front of the world. You never know what someone else is going through, and you never know how sharing your situation might help them with theirs.”
