• Independence Day fans will be sad to learn Will Smith will not be part of the sequel. According to the film’s director, Roland Emmerich, Smith costs too much to recruit. “He’s too expensive,” said Emmerich to the New York Daily News. “Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name.” There’s no indication who will take the lead role. Although Emmerich wouldn’t say who from the original film would be returning, he did give one small clue: “We have like maybe half of the people that you know from the first film and the other half [of the] people are new.” [NY Daily News]
• This weekend, rumors began swirling that Kanye West proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Kim Kardashian. However, a close family friend says it’s not true, they are focusing on being parents right now. But the source says marriage is in their future. [People]
• Beyoncé is extending her Mrs. Carter Show tour dates. After finishing up in Brooklyn on August 5, she’ll play three festivals then head to South America for another leg. The singer will hit Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico and Puerto Rico. On November 30th, she will head back to the States for another slew of concerts that run through the end of the year. [Beyoncé]
• Late rapper Tupac Shakur will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He along with Tavis Smiley are among the list of stars slated to be honored in 2014. Chairman of the Walk of Fame selection committee David Green said, “We have a great mix of celebrities and industry executives who have made Hollywood what it is today—one of the greatest entertainment destinations in the world.” [Huffington Post]
