After days of silence, Diddy is finally speaking out about the death of Kim Porter, with whom he had a decades-long, on-and-off again relationship.
She was also the mother of three of his children: son Christian and twin daughters Jessie James and D’Lila Star.
The hip-hop mogul took to Instagram to share a video of the couple taken while they were shooting the December 2006 cover of ESSENCE Magazine. Porter was pregnant at the time with the twins.
“For the last three days I’ve been trying to wake up out of this nightmare. But I haven’t. I don’t know what I’m going to do without you baby. I miss you so much,” he wrote. “Today I’m going to pay tribute to you, I’m going to try and find the words to explain our unexplainable relationship.”
He continued: “We were more than best friends, we were more than soulmates. WE WERE SOME OTHER SHIT!! And I miss you so much. Super Black Love”
This is the first time Diddy is speaking out since the model and actress was found dead earlier this week in her Los Angeles home after suffering from cardiac arrest, TMZ reports. She was 47.
Though Diddy did not immediately make a personal announcement, his rep told People that the mogul was “devastated.” He was spotted in recent days with ex-girlfriend Cassie by his side, E! News reports.
Diddy was a rookie New York A&R when he met the Georgia peach receptionist and aspiring model at Uptown Records in the 1990’s. The duo shared a sometimes public on-then-off-again relationship, but they continued to co-parent their children.
“I wasn’t trying to holler at her or anything, but I was admiring her—her lips, her eyes, her mouth, her shape, her energy—and thinking, I wish I had a girl like that,” he told ESSENCE Magazine writer Jeannine Amber.
They broke up in 1999 and Diddy started dating Jennifer Lopez. In 2003, they reconciled, but called it quits for good in 2007 after Diddy fathered a child with Sarah Chapman, Porter told ESSENCE. His daughter Chance was born in 2006.
Over the years, they have learned to co-parent their children, and remained friends.
“He’s gentle, giving and sensitive,” she told ESSENCE about Diddy, “especially to me. He’s really a good guy, with a big, big heart. I get to see that. I’m really thankful I get to see that.”
