Donald Glover is having a pretty stellar year; his hit show Atlanta has received tons of praise and he’s just landed a major role in the upcoming Star Wars film as young Lando Calrissian, a character many Star Wars fans have wanted to resurface for years. Glover stopped by The Ellen Show to talk about it all.
“I’m very honored,” he told Ellen when the host brought up his Star Wars role. “There’s this thing going around on the internet of me in a Star Wars tee shirt when I was in high school, so it’s been a long thing.”

Glover went on to add that the first toy he ever had was a Lando action figure and when he told his parents about the role, his mom gave him some very real advice. “I told my dad immediately and he was like ‘Awww’ and my mom was in the back like ‘Don’t mess it up! Don’t mess this up!'” he laughed. Unfortunately, the flick doesn’t hit theaters until May 2018.
Glover also shared the inspiration behind his hit show Atlanta, revealing, “I just wanted to make Twin Peaks with rappers…I just wanted to show how it was growing up in Atlanta.”
The first season finale of Atlanta airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. on FX.
