Dr. Dre was handcuffed outside of his home yesterday following a road rage incident which began when a motorist stopped in front of Dr. Dre’s home, blocking his driveway. When Dre asked the motorist to move, he did so, but cursed the mogul as he did. According to the L.A. Times, Dre told deputies that the man immediately returned and parked in the same location and that’s when the Beats founder pulled out his phone and began recording. However, according to TMZ, sources claim when Dre pulled out his phone, the motorist remarked, “Here we go again, another black guy with a gun.”
When police arrived at Dre’s home, the music mogul was put in handcuffs and searched and no weapon was found. Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Reed told the L.A. Times, “Due to the nature of the call, the person was searched, handcuffed, and briefly detained in a patrol car while deputies investigated the incident.” Deputies said that Dre was cooperative, agreed to the search, and denied having a gun. He was given a citation but not formally charged.
While the police didn’t charge Dr. Dre, the motorist insisted on making a citizen’s arrest, meaning he filled out a report detailing the allegations. Sources claim that Dre told police that the man had followed him off the freeway following a road rage incident. Deputies will forward the motorist’s report to the district attorney, who will then decide if there’s a case.
