EJ Johnson is speaking out for the first time following the death of his best friend Lyric McHenry.
Earlier this month, McHenry was found unconscious in the Bronx wearing only a pajama top and underwear. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the New York Daily News. The 26-year-old Stanford University graduate was also 20 weeks pregnant.
The 26-year-old reality star and son of famed basketball player Majic Johnson told fans in the comments of one of his photos, “I’m going to make this clear to everyone there will be no mourning post because I’m not going to reduce a 25 [year] friendship to 1 Instagram post please respect my privacy and my process.”
Johnson and McHenry had been best friends since childhood, both wishing each other happy birthday recently on Instagram.
Police are still investigating McHenry’s death and have shared video of a man seen in the area where McHenry was found. The medical examiner’s office is still working to find a cause of death.
A pregnant McHenry was found in possession of cocaine, although, it is unclear whether she or her family knew about the pregnancy.
