ESSENCE’s 2014 Black Women in Music event will honor Scottish songbird Emeli Sandé.
The fifth annual celebration will be held during GRAMMY week on January 22nd in Los Angeles, California and will feature an exclusive performance from Sandé with special guests.
Making her American debut in 2012 with Our Version of Events, Sandé left an impressive mark on the music industry. She not only captured the attention of numerous veteran entertainers who continue to sing her praises, but she earned the respect of many insiders for her incredible songwriting skills. “When she is on stage, you can feel her passion for music and the heart that goes into her lyrics,” said Sir Elton John.
“What a privilege to have received the news that I will be part of celebrating powerful, strong, creative women in the music industry today,” said the “Next to Me” singer. “I am honored to have been selected by ESSENCE magazine and look forward to an evening of empowerment.”
Sandé will join previous honorees Mary J. Blige, Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monaé, Solange Knowles, Lianne La Havas and industry veteran Sylvia Rhone.
