Empire star Bryshere Gray is the latest actor from the Fox series who’s had a run in with Chicago police.
Gray, who portrays the youngest Lyon, Hakeem on the hit series, was arrested in the Windy City on Thursday after he was pulled over for an issue with his registration.
Police spokeswoman Karie James told USA Today that the tags on the 2014 Rolls-Royce he was driving didn’t match the car. Gray also was driving without insurance and a license.
Gray was charged with a misdemeanor and later released. He also received a ticket for driving without the proper documentation for himself and his car.
Fox had no comment when ESSENCE reached out Monday.
It’s the latest embarrassing moment for Empire, which will end after its forthcoming sixth season. Gray’s co-star Jussie Smollett was also in headlines earlier this year for an alleged homophobic and racist attack. Although Smollett was arrested and charged with 16 counts, those charges were later dropped.
It was just last week that Empire creator Lee Daniels admitted that he was “beyond embarrassed” by the incident and subsequent backlash caused by Smollett.
In an interview with Vulture published, Daniels added, “I think that when it happened, I had a flash of me running from bullies. I had a flash of my whole life, of my childhood, my youth, getting beaten.”
Daniels also admitted that he has stopped communicating with Smollett to protect his peace.
“I had to detach myself and stop calling him because it was taking away the time I have for my kids, the time I have for my partner. It was affecting my spirit and other shows, everything,” he said.
So far, Daniels hasn’t spoken out about this latest incident with Gray.
