The classy fashion moments from one of R&B’s most iconic girl groups are being brought back to life by way of the Smithsonian African American History Museum.
The ladies of En Vogue were among a handful of ’90s hitmakers who lit up the stage at the Crystal Pepsi Summer of ’92 Event in NYC on Tuesday night with a medley of their classics including “Never Gonna Get It,” “Don’t Let Go” and “Giving Him Something He Can Feel,” and ESSENCE caught up with the group for a quick chat after their performance. “We’re really excited to be here tonight sharing the stage with a lot of the acts that were out when we were,” the group told ESSENCE backstage at Terminal 5. “Salt N Pepa, Biz Markie, Lisa Loeb…it’s awesome. That was our era.”
The trio was also excited to reveal that a pair of their looks from two of their most infamous music videos will be on display at the newly re-opened Smithsonian African American History Museum this fall.
“Our dresses from the “Never Gonna Get It/My Lovin” video and the “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” video will be debuting in the Smithsonian African American History museum on September 24,” group member Terry Ellis said. “So, we’re really super excited about that.”

The talented divas also made a few guest appearances on Kelly Rowland’s Chasing Destiny reality series this summer and they say they’re excited about the R&B girl group wave that’s emerged over the last few years.
“I think it’s great. I think it’s very timely. You know, girl group music, it’s got a special place in American music history,” group member Cindy Herron said. “We haven’t had a lot of girl groups recently and I think it’s time. I think really, there could have been more girl groups before this. I just think you need some good girl groups, good singers with great material and I think people will embrace it and it will just take off. So, I’m so happy for groups like June’s Diary and Good Girl and I think it’s time.”
Speaking about their own new music on the horizon, the ladies revealed that they’ll be teaming up with the original En Vogue production team who made all the magic happen.

“The album is called Electric Cafe and we’re really excited because we got back with our original producers Denzel Foster and Thomas McElroy,” Terry said. “So, they’re gonna get the signature En Vogue sound, you know, the melodies and the harmonies but, we have a nice eclectic mix on this record. Different vibes, tones, melodies and a little bit of EDM influence. But, we’re gonna give you the soul and signature harmonies for sure.”
