Essence Atkins recently stopped the ESSENCE office to dish on her upcoming sitcom Marlon, starring and created by Marlon Wayans.
This is the fifth time the two have worked together with Atkins first working with Marlon on The Wayans Bros. Speaking with ESSENCE before heading over to the Yes, Girl! podcast, Atkins gushed over Wayans, ‘’I love him, I trust him. He has an incredible work ethic, he’s an incredible guy. He’s so kind and fun and interesting. And, one of the things I most love about him is he is constantly bettering himself and challenging himself. “
Marlon isn’t the only thing Atkins has up her sleeve. She recently appeared on the CBS show The Great Indoors and just wrapped You Can’t Hurry Love. And, there could be more projects on the horizon. Atkins revealed that there are talks of sequels for classic films she was in.
“They’re talking about a How High sequel and a Deliver Us From Eva sequel now too,” she said.
Atkins also revealed that she was up for a part in the summer smash Girls Trip, “It’s funny because the character I was up for was Tiffany Haddish’s character, but Tiffany killed it. She was awesome.”
Girls Trip is the biggest comedy hit of the year, set to surpass the $100 million mark. So, if the film lands a sequel, which we hope it does, maybe we’ll see Atkins alongside the film’s four leads, turning up in some new, fun locations.
