Andra Day is not only rising up, she’s blowing up! The “Rise Up” singer and new ESSENCE cover girl has partnered with Coca-Cola and McDonald’s in a one-of-a-kind collaboration called the Rise Up ESSENCE Festival program.
Day—who will also perform at ESSENCE Festival, held June 30-July 3 in New Orleans—will have her image and “Rise Up” lyrics featured on about 40 million McDonald’s cups. ESSENCE Festival, Coca-Cola and McDonald’s have partnered with the music app Shazam to feature new visual-technology recognition that will let you scan each Coca-Cola cup for exclusive digital content like the Yoruba Richen-directed short film, I Rise.

“I am overjoyed to be a part of this program,” Day said in a statement. “The reach of Coke and McDonald’s is undeniable and I’m thrilled these iconic brands are joining forces to inspire local communities through messages of peace and motivation in unique ways. It’s an added bonus that they are using the lyrics to ‘Rise Up’ as a part of those messages.”
