It’s been nearly 12 years since we last visited Calvin’s Barbershop on the Southside of Chicago, but this April, the whole family is getting back together.
EW, People, and ESSENCE have your first look at Barbershop: The Next Cut, which reunites Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Eve, and the rest of the series cast, while adding a few new, but familiar, faces to the mix.
Common and Nicki Minaj are among the new employees at Calvin’s, playing respectively the husband and a potential romantic rival to Eve’s character, Terri, and it sounds like the scenes featuring the three are something fans of the series should look forward to. “Our dynamic in the movie, people are going to love,” Eve says. “I honestly can’t wait to sit in the theater and watch people watch us.”
After a decade away from the movies and her character, Eve had to go back and do something she hadn’t done in years: watch the movies. “I actually had to watch because I wanted to make sure I did her justice,” he says. “I haven’t watched those movies in so long. It was good homework.”
For the third go-around, there’s more than the shop on the line. As Chicago grows more and more dangerous due to gang violence, the crew from Calvin’s has to come together to help save the community and their own family.
Head over to EW and People for other exclusive images. Barbershop: The Next Cut, which is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man Holiday), is scheduled to hit theater on April 15, 2016.
