Gabrielle Union is showing her support in style!
The actress, 45, gave a pregnant Georgia news anchor Laura Warren some pieces
from her New York & Co. clothing collection after the WRDW broadcaster was body shamed by viewers during her recent pregnancy.
“Laura Warren is another hardworking news anchor that I found who was subjected to body shaming… and in this case, pregnant body shaming!” Union captioned her Woman Crush Wednesday dedication on social media. “I’m going to send you some outfits from my @nyandcompany collection so you can flaunt what your mama gave ya!”
Warren, who gave birth to son John Michael earlier this month, received a disheartening voicemail message from a woman who called her “disgusting” for wearing clothes that showed off her baby bump at 20 weeks pregnant.
The Augusta newscaster
wrote on her blog that she was frustrated with herself for feeling offended by the woman’s comments. “I consider myself a confident, pretty secure, independent, woman. Why was I letting this one ridiculous, negative comment ruin my whole day?” Warren said. “I’ve gotten dozens of compliments from viewers saying nice things about my pregnancy, why was this the one that stuck?”
Union applauded Warren’s determination in the #WCW post, writing: “She was described as too ‘disgusting to be on TV.’ Instead of letting this bring her down, she fought the good fight and decided to turn the negative energy into positive by saying nice things to as many people as possible and spreading love. Plus, she continues to wear whatever feels good to her while on TV! Keep doing you Laura!”
Warren thanked the
Being Mary Jane star on Twitter that same day.
“Thanks for the love @itsgabrielleu Such an honor coming from such a beautiful, hard working, and inspiring lady like you!” the mother of one said in her response.
In August, Gabrielle Union for New York and Company was launched with 51 pieces, ranging from tops and dresses to outerwear, available in sizes 0 to 20. And everything in the collection (except outerwear) retails for under $100!
The collection was announced months after Union was announced as the face of the retailer’s 7th Avenue collection in March.
