Newly unsealed documents reveal even more details about the investigation into the attack on Jussie Smollett, with phone records showing that the actor may have planned the attack with brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Chicago Police Department investigators were looking into phone records that allegedly detailed the Empire actor discussing the purchase of “weed, molly or Whitney” with the brothers prior to the January 29 attack.
The police reports also include details about the attack, which allegedly shows Smollett asking one of the brothers to punch him.
These new revelations are detailed in a new batch of records made available Thursday, just days after a judge unsealed documents in Smollett’s criminal case, which initially revealed nothing new.
This new information, however, will likely only add to the controversy surrounding the attack.
Smollett has long maintained his innocence, with his attorneys previously stating, “Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.”
