When we were all singing, “I will never lie, again,” little did we know that Romeo from Immature wasn’t just wearing his eye patch to be mysteriously sexy—like we thought.
The R&B singer who’s set to embark on a reunion tour, TB Tour, starting Nov. 15, recently revealed just how he came to wear that eye patch. And it has something to do with one of our favorite singers, Brandy Norwood.
Romeo told Nick Cannon on Power 106 in Los Angeles that Norwood “got into it” with Half Pint.
“She had a book in her hand, just tossed it back, not thinking anyone or I was that close. Cut my retina, detached it and the lens to the eye had fell out and [Moesha actor] Brandon Adams caught it. He was there with us. So, he’s standing there holding my lens. He’s not knowing what’s going on. Marc come[s] in and we were trying to hide it,” he recalled.
Marques Houston, who is also going on the TB Tour, added that when he came in the room he asked what was “going on?”
“Rome is like, ‘Nothing. Nothing.’ Brandy’s like, ‘He don’t want to get me in trouble. Nothing, nothing.’ I immediately went and got [manager] Chris [Stokes]. ‘Something happened to Rome.’ Told Chris is was an accident and we took Rome to the hospital,” he added.
Romeo eventually went on to have three eye surgeries to correct his eye.
And don’t worry, in a song he wrote in 2004, “Look Down On Me,” he revealed that he and Norwood are still cool after the accident.
“But I put that on my life/I love her to death/If she hear me talking, I know she can hear the honesty in my voice and my sincerity,” he crooned.
