Janelle Monae’s lengthy resumé keeps her very busy with an award-winning music career, a new album and roles in critically acclaimed films like Moonlight and Hidden Figures. With so much to do, Monae, 32, admits there is one thing she fears she’ll miss out on.
Opening up to Fault Magazine, the Kansas City native said that she is worried that one day she will run out of time to have a family.
“That I won’t have a family within the time frame that I want to have a family,” the “Electric Lady” singer admitted when asked what scares her.
She added, “I want to have children, but I don’t want to miss that time because I was so focused on my career and because I didn’t plan accordingly. That scares me most now more than anything.”
The 2017 ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood honoree is set to release her third studio album, Dirty Computer, on April 27th and in the future, whether she is a mother or not, she is hopeful that she will be able to inspire a new birth of dreamers who march to the beat of their own drum as she does.
“I do want to usher in a new generation of babies that will be better than me and able to dream bigger than me and go out into this world and turn it upside down in a very positive way.”
