Each holiday season, we usually see a plethora of feel-good commercials from various companies that truly remind us of the reason for the season. But if there’s one brand that consistently warms our heart and brings joy with their holiday campaigns, it’s definitely Gap.
The American brand has become almost as known for its iconic campaigns and commercials as its sweaters and jeans, and Gap is back with another epic campaign for the holiday 2017 season starring singer Janelle Monáe.
Monáe stars in the “Meet Me In The Gap” commercial with a diverse cast wearing a variety of holiday striped sweaters, and various choirs singing along to Freddie Scott’s “You Got What I Need.” The commercial was directed by Grammy-nominated director Paul Hunter who is most famously known for directing Pharrell Williams’ “Freedom” video.
Per her classic black-and-white fashion style, Monáe stars in the commercial in a black-and-white coat over a white button-down shirt and black jeans with a black hat, black suspenders and black-and-white oxford shoes. Monáe also wears various black-and-white looks for the campaign.
Cher and Future were just the stars of Gap’s Fall 2017 campaign, and they sang along to Sly & the Family Stone’s “Everyday People.” Back in 2008, Monáe also starred in a holiday campaign for the classic American brand.
In this year’s campaign, Monáe and the rest of the cast will certainly bring joy to the world with this feel-good commercial. And we’re pretty sure we’ll all be singing along to “You Got What I Need” all season long! In an interview with Billboard Style, Monáe shared her hopes for the commercial. “As a country and as Americans, we’re strongest when we come together. I hope that when people watch [the commercial] they feel encouraged to meet each other; to talk; to listen — around the holidays, especially, and beyond.” Sounds like true holiday spirit to us!
