Fresh off tearing down the Essence Festival stage earlier this month, it looks like Janet Jackson is working on something new for her legion of fans.
According to TMZ, Jackson was spotted in Brooklyn dancing through the streets with her squad while a camera crew followed along. While the singer and her group bopped along in silence, it sure looks like she’s cooking up a new music video.
In a short clip, Janet is seen dressed in a plaid Christian Siriano skirt, ripped jeans, designer t-shirt, and an African print headwrap. Her dancers mirror her eclectic, West African-inspired style as well, which makes us super curious about what their looks say about the music. Back in May, Billboard writer David Ritz let it slip that Jackson was back in the studio working on a new album. Though the singer didn’t want to directly comment on whether or not we’d be getting an album in 2018–because she said she doesn’t “try to analyze the creative process while it’s still ongoing”–the 52-year-old superstar said she’s inspired by the world around her.“Anything can inspire me. This morning, I saw this lovely elderly Japanese woman walking down the streets of Hollywood wearing an adorable bonnet with bright red flowers. She might be a song. I remembered an especially painful chapter in my early life last night before going to bed. That might be a song,” Jackson said in the Billboard cover story. “I woke up this morning and heard a bird chirping in a rhythm that captivated my heart. Maybe that will turn into a new groove.”
While Ms. Jackson remains mum about what she’s working on exactly, judging by her moves through the Brooklyn streets, it looks like she’s found a new groove she’s almost ready to share with the world.
