JAY-Z once called SZA a fluke. Yes, that SZA. The singer who gave us “The Weekend” and “Love Galore.” But, it’s kind of not what you think.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, SZA dished that JAY-Z’s comment wasn’t all that bad.
“Jay Z was the first person to tell me that he thought I was a fluke, to my face,” she told host DJ Semtex. “I laughed and I said, ‘So do I.'”
She further explained, “He was just like, ‘You’re really good, you’re pretty good,’ and I was like, ‘Thanks.’ He said, ‘I thought you were a fluke,’ and I was like, ‘Me too!'”
SZA released her debut studio album, Ctrl, back in June and the album quickly became one of the biggest hits of the summer. She’s currently touring with Ravyn Lenae and Smino.
The singer has also teamed up with Solange, who will direct the upcoming video for her hit “The Weekend.”
“I love her,” SZA said of Solange in an interview with USA Today. “I think the universe is just bringing us closer to each other. That’s my homegirl.”
