Jay-Z is stepping in to help the Phoenix couple that was aggressively arrested by police when their daughter mistakenly walked outside a Dollar Store with a doll.
According to AZCentral.com, the philanthropic arm of Roc Nation has offered to provide legal support to Dravon Ames, and his pregnant fiancée Iesha Harper, whose violent interaction with the police last month was caught on video by a bystander and went viral.
Roc Nation also confirmed that they secured high-profile attorney Alex Spiro to join the family’s legal team pro-bono.
“There is no place for that behavior in our world – let alone our justice system – and we are calling for the immediate termination of the police officers in question,” Roc Nation Managing Director of Philanthropy Dania Diaz said of the incident. “We are committed to supporting the family to ensure that justice is served.”
In the viral video, the cops pointed guns at Harper and her small children, and threatened to “put a f—-king cap” in the “f—-king head” of the Ames, the Phoenix New Times reports.
Even after Harper pleaded with the officer to let her continue holding her one-year-old daughter, the officer is heard demanding that Harper place the baby on the hot pavement.
The couple is now demanding $10 million from the city of Phoenix, claiming that the officers involved committed battery, unlawful imprisonment, false arrest and infliction of emotional distress in addition to violating their civil rights.
Phoenix police told ABC15 that the officer who verbally and physically attacked Ames is on a “non-enforcement assignment.” The officer who pointed a gun at Harper and her young children inside the vehicle remains on patrol.
