Seems Jess Hilarious has realized that her bigoted comments about Sikh passengers boarding the same flight weren’t so funny after all.
The comedian and actress took to Instagram to apologize for her “insensitive and ignorant behavior.” Jess acknowledged that in her previous videos about the incident she was defensive and had no real idea how her words would affect her fans.
“I was defensive, but that’s what happens when you don’t take the time to really know what’s transpiring,” she said in a new video. “In understanding the error of my actions, I have to first acknowledge the rooted issues, which means racially profiling a group of individuals based on their appearance and on top of that—publicizing it on a platform where others can be hurt by it and others were hurt from it.”
The comedian added that members of the Sikh community reached out to her about the comments and at the time she was unaware of the tragic shooting at a New Zealand mosque, vowing to donate $15,000 to the families of the victims.
Jess continued by personally apologizing to the Sikh individuals she accused of being terrorists, also apologizing to fans and people disappointed by her actions.
“I’m not sure if these particular individuals that were on the plane are aware of my actions by now, but either way, I would love to apologize personally to them first for my insensitive and ignorant behavior,” she said.
“Yet, I would still like to apologize to all of you who were aware and offended by my actions.I refuse to teach, spread or be an advocate for hatred—I just want to make people laugh,” Jess concluded.
