A month after shattering ratings records with the bestseller-turned-television-movie, “Sins of the Mother,” and a week before her latest film, “Why Did I Get Married Too?” hits theaters, songstress Jill Scott is set to tackle yet another complex character. Tonight, she guest stars on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” as a woman whose disabled sister is raped while under her care. “These days, I’m looking for characters that are far from [who I am],” admits Scott, who shares billing with both Quinton Aaron [“The Blind Side”] and Lisa Arrindell Anderson [“Madea’s Family Reunion”] for the episode. “I want to continue to take some risks so I can gradually expand my characters and grow as an actor.” Sure, Scott’s acting resume is blossoming right before our eyes, but her music fans needn’t fret. The Grammy-winning Philadelphia native and ESSENCE Music Festival headliner continues to deliver in the recording studio and will bless us with her summer-slated album, aptly entitled, “The Light of the Sun.” We can barely wait until she and Maxwell hit the road together in May. As for tonight, we can’t even imagine the kind of drama she’ll be bringing to the small screen. We shall be watching. “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” airs tonight at 10/9c on NBC.
