John Boyega has sparred off with galaxy’s biggest baddies, but now he needs some help back on earth – with women.
The Star Wars: The Force Awakensactor revealed in his new GQ August cover story that he’s sought advice on dating in Hollywood from two of the industry’s biggest names: Orlando Bloom and Robert Downey Jr.
Boyega, 25, said just before the sci-fi franchise’s big return in Dec. 2015, he realized, “It was time for me to sit down with someone who’s been through the extremes of Hollywood and to be given some tips as to how to stay stable.”
He asked his agent to reach out to Downey’s for a sit-down, as the actor has famously overcome the perils of young stardom. And Downey obliged, inviting Boyega to his house for a crash-course on fame. Unexpectedly, Bloom stopped by.
“I’m not used to any of that stuff, hanging out with Iron Man on a day-to-day basis,” theDetroitstar told GQ. “I was just like, ‘Bloody hell. Is this how the celebrities do?’ ”
So, with two industry veterans at his behest, Boyega turned to “Women. Women, women, women,” seeking guidance on how to craft a lasting relationship amid the tinsel town madness. (Bloom recently dated Katy Perry, and Downey has been wed to wife Susan since 2005).
“My mom and dad have been together for 25 years, so that’s the system I will follow,” said Boyega, adding, “It’s nice to survive with your companion by your side. I’m sure it’s a good thing. But I’ve never experienced it.”
He continued, “And people advise you as a celebrity, ‘Make sure you get someone who doesn’t care about your career.’”
Boyega said, however, that he disagrees with that take. And told Downey and Bloom as much.
The actors agreed: “She has to care about it to understand it.”
Boyega appears next in Detroit, a historical drama about some of the events of the 1967 Detroit riots. The film is set to be released on August 4.
