It’s a boy!
Jordin Sparks and her husband Dana Isaiah excitedly revealed the sex of their baby during a gender reveal party with their families on Thanksgiving.
“We’re beyond excited to be having a little boy. We cannot wait to meet him and love him so much already!” the couple tells PEOPLE exclusively in a statement.
Sparks, 27, secretly married Isaiah, 25, on July 16 and confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE that they were expecting their first child together.
“We’re both really excited,” Sparks told PEOPLE. “He’s been like, ‘I want to shout it from the mountain tops!’ We’re really proud to be married to each other and to be celebrating this.”
The star also told PEOPLE she was “excited” about her pregnancy curves.
“I’ve always loved my curves,” she said. “Now I have different ones and I’m excited about them.”
Her new husband has been very supportive throughout her pregnancy and Sparks says he also “likes” her new curves.
“For the past month, it’s been this in-between stage where I’ve been taking a hair tie and clipping the hole of [my] jeans onto the little buckle,” she says.
“It kind of helps open them a little bit. Then that stopped working and I was just like ‘Babe, can I wear your sweatpants?’ I’ve been wearing his sweatpants all the time!”
Now that the news is out, Sparks is ready to try on more maternity wear.
“I wear sweatpants anyway, but she’s like, ‘I want to look cute,’ ” says Isaiah. “She’s like, ‘I don’t have any maternity clothes!’ I’m excited we can finally tell people.”
The couple’s wedding was spontaneous — an elopement while they were vacationing in Hawaii with their best friends.
“We hadn’t had a set plan or anything,” Sparks said. “We were like, ‘If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, that’s okay too.’”
The American Idol alum met her husband, who is pursuing a modeling career, in April after she met his family when she traveled to Houston during Super Bowl weekend this past February with her charity campaign I’m M.A.D., Are You?
The pair bonded quickly with Sparks saying she knew she would marry Isaiah one day.
“A couple of days after we had actually met, I was like in my head ‘That’s going to be my husband! That’s my husband right there,’” she said. “When I’m with him, I feel comfort and safety and calm and peace, and those aren’t things that I normally felt. So it was a little wake-up call for me.”
It was after their wedding, in late August, that Sparks discovered their family of two would be expanding to three.
“It was about five days after he moved to L.A. He comes in and I go ‘I’m pregnant.’ It was such a shock for both of us. I turned around and started bawling in the closet,” says Sparks. “It’s been really crazy because everything changes. Everything has been so crazy and fast-forward. Once we got over the initial shock of it, now again just like it is with the marriage, to be able to share that this amazing thing is happening, it’s such a great thing. We did this together!”
With Isaiah now settled in Los Angeles and their first child on the way, the singer — who swore off love last year after going through high-profile breakups — is counting her blessings and embracing all the changes in her life.
“I’d gone through a crazy time last year, so I was just like ‘You know what? I’m good. I’m going to stay single. I’m just not going to look,’” says Sparks. “It’s amazing that that phrase “When you don’t look for it, that’s when it comes” … he just showed up at my door.”
Adds the singer: “I’m extremely grateful because life is nuts. This is the best part so far because I have [Dana] and I have this little one and I have a new family. I’m the most content I’ve ever been in my life.
