Power 105.1 radio host Charlamagne Tha God no longer thinks it’s a good idea to talk to Kanye West about mental health.
After the rapper’s recent erratic White House rant, Charlamagne decided “it would not be productive” to discuss the topic with West right now.
The two were slated to appear together later this week at a talk hosed by The New York Times to discuss Charlamagne’s new book, Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me, as well as the ongoing stigma against people living with mental health challenges.
While many have suspected West of struggling with something over the years, the rapper has been more candid recently about living with depression and bipolar disorder even opening up about it on a song called, “Yikes.”
Still, after West’s White House outburst, Charlamagne pulled the plug on the conversation.
“Normalizing being mentally healthy is a conversation that I really wanted to have with Kanye because he’s been so vocal about his own mental health struggles,” Charlamagne wrote. “Unfortunately I think to have that conversation with him right now would not be productive and a total distraction from the point of the convo, which is to eradicate the stigma of mental health especially in the Black community.”
While Charlamagne claimed he canceled the upcoming discussion, the event could have been in jeopardy because the rapper is currently in Africa.
I welcome American entertainment stars Kanye West and @KimKardashian to Uganda. I held fruitful discussions with the duo on how to promote Uganda's tourism and the arts. I thank Kanye for the gift of white sneakers. Enjoy your time in Uganda. It is the true Pearl of Africa. pic.twitter.com/BO0iD0sFCP
