This article was originally posted on PEOPLE.Kanye West is opening up about his Tuesday morning meeting with President-elect Donald Trump.
“I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues,” West posted in the first of a series of tweets Tuesday afternoon. “These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago. I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future president if we truly want change.”
In addition to addressing his conversation topics with the business mogul-turned-Republican politician, West once again hinted at a potential presidential run of his own, cryptically tweeting, “#2024.”
The string of tweets are the first West, 39, has posted in nearly two months — and the first he has shared since he was hospitalized Nov. 21 following a psychiatric emergency. He was released the next week.
West, 39, met with Trump, 70, at Trump Tower in Manhattan, where he posed with the President-elect and his daughter Ivanka Trump.
Earlier Tuesday, a rep for Trump told PEOPLE in a statement: “Kanye requested the meeting, and we were delighted to host him. The President-elect and Kanye are old friends and they discussed a wide range of topics. It was a very good discussion.”
Indeed, the statement mirrored what politician told reporters while he and the rapper were photographed, saying, “We’ve been friends for a long time,” adding they met to talk about “life.”
A West source tells PEOPLE the rapper’s family life fuels his : “He’s very focused on the future in terms of economic equality, racial equality. He actually is a very progressive thinker contrary to whatever rants may happen or what people want to say about him. He lives life in a political way and his family informs all of those decisions. They’re the reason he does what he does and thinks what he thinks. He considers himself a futurist. A lot of the stuff he talks about is the future, for his kids.”
Four days before West canceled the remaining dates of his Saint Pablo Tour and was hospitalized for sleep deprivation and exhaustion, he spoke out about his political leanings this election year at a San Jose, California, concert.

“I told y’all I didn’t vote right? … But if I were to have voted, I would have voted for Trump,” he told the crowd, which answered with “boos” before he later added: “I just said that I would have voted for Donald Trump and then I did a song and y’all sang it at the top of y’all lungs … That doesn’t mean that you’re a Trump supporter. That just means you okay with a celebrity having their own opinion – or that someone else is okay to have their own opinion. That might not be your opinion and you can still like that person or still like that person’s music.”
Since leaving UCLA Medical Center late last month, West has returned to his typically busy lifestyle, attending a “Rick Owens: Furniture” exhibition last week and going for a BMX ride over the weekend before flying to New York, where he’s been apartment hunting and hitting up a recording studio.
“Kanye seems more subdued and less manic than he usually has been, but still in a creative headspace,” an insider told PEOPLE. “He’s being low-key but seems focused on the future — future projects and moving forward. He’s slowed down a little but he’s still very focused on projects, personal and professional. And he does still seem exhausted from everything. You can tell the experience [canceling the tour and time in the hospital] was very trying.”
