Kanye West started off 2017 by taking his family to visit his mother’s grave in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — a first for his kids North and Saint West, ETreports.
“It is the first time North and Saint visited their grandma,” a source tells ET. “It was important for Kanye to take the kids to his mother’s grave. Kanye wasn’t able to go during the anniversary because of he was on tour, and then his health spiraled.”

Kanye’s mother, Donda West, died on Nov. 10, 2007 of heart disease after undergoing plastic surgery the day before. She was 58.
“The final manner of death could not be determined,” the coroner said in a statement at the time. “Multiple post-operative factors could have played a role in the death. The exact contribution of each factor could not be determined. There was no evidence of a surgical or anesthetic misadventure.”
In a 2015 interview with Q Magazine, Kanye said he felt guilty for his mother’s death: “If I had never moved to LA she’d be alive. I don’t want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears,” he told the magazine.
The memorial trip comes as Kanye continues to recover after he was checked into hospital in November. His wife Kim Kardashian makes her come back to social media this week after taking a three-month hiatus following her robbery incident in Paris last year.
