ESSENCE festival alum Kehlani is opening up about the cheating drama and suicide scare that kept her in the news earlier this year. Sitting down with The Cruz Show, she says she was heartbroken when news broke that she had been allegedly cheating on her boyfriend, Cleveland Cavalier’s star Kyrie Irving, with her ex-boyfriend, singer PartyNextDoor.
Her social media lit up with the exposure of her dirty laundry and that intense period eventually led to her trying to take her own life. “Today I wanted to leave this earth,” she said in an Instagram post at the time. “Being completely selfish for once. Never thought I’d get to such a low point.”
“It was really recovering from so many things at once,” she told The Cruz Show, admitting that it was a lot to deal with for a 21-year-old. She deleted her Instagram and Twitter accounts at the time, which have since been reactivated. Though she says she is still working through the motions of recovery, one positive thing that came out of the incident was that she has a strong exterior.
“I wasn’t a victim, you know what I mean. I’m never a victim, I refuse to be a victim—I’m not,” she continued. “It was really recovering from so many things at once…on the flip side, there’s not too much that can hurt me now.”
Her latest song “CRZY” is making its way up the charts.
