Keke Palmer is opening up about her battles with mental illness in a new social media campaign.
In this ESSENCE exclusive, Palmer shares her experience with anxiety and depression, revealing, “We all have our trials and errors with different things in our lives. Everything is not the end of the world. I realized, as I got older, I would love to have told myself that.”
Palmer joins a slew of celebs who’ve teamed up with Child Mind Institute for their latest social campaign, #MyYoungerSelf. Throughout May celebrities will share their mental health experiences in order to inspire others to speak out.
Palmer adds that growing up she had troubling dealing with depression and anxiety, harboring the blame for the issues she faced.
The actress and singer says she’d tell her younger self, “Give yourself some time, be patient with yourself, and you’ll learn how to cope with these different things.”
Fans are encouraged to join the conversation using the hashtag #MyYoungerSelf. A new celebrity video will be shared daily at speakupforkids.org.
