Kelly Rowland is hoping to reconnect with her estranged father for the sake of her son Titan.
The beauty opened up about her family dynamics in the August issue of Vogue Australia, sharing that she wants her three-year-old son Titan to know his grandfather, Christopher Lovett. Rowland only met her father once when she was a child.
“I haven’t seen him since then,” she said. “I do want to know him, meet him, know his background for the sake of my son.”
She admits that her husband Tim Witherspoon has communicated on the phone with her father, but she has yet to make the call.
“I don’t know, I’m just nervous to make that phone call,” she adds.
Rowland also opened up about the relationship she had with her own mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, who died three years ago. Rowland famously moved in with the Knowles family as a teen and had an “interesting” relationship, as she puts it, with her own mother.
“I would have told my mum that I really appreciated her, that she was bold, she was courageous, she was beautiful and that I wish I really told her to her face,” she said. “I didn’t think she was ever really told that.”
But all Rowland had were words of praise for the Knowles family as she reminisced about what it was like to move in with them, especially Tina Knowles-Lawson: “Tina [Knowles] was just awesome, always has been, always will be – and having sisters. Tina was there when Titan was born; she walked me down the aisle, because my mother was actually too sick to walk me. Tina is his grandmother, you know what I mean.”
Rowland is currently down under filming the seventh season of The Voice Australia.
