Kerry Washington is using fashion to give back in the most stylish ways possible!
According to WWD, the star has teamed up with footwear and accessories brand Aquatalia to design a limited-edition handbag with a cause.
The collaboration is a part of Allstate’s Purple Purse initiative which aims to end domestic violence through financial empowerment.
“I’ve been working to help end gender-based violence for some time, and fashion is something I’m very passionate about, so it was the perfect way to combine two areas of interest,” Washington said. “I never knew what financial abuse was before I started working with Allstate and Purple Purse, because the wounds are so invisible. It’s the number-one reason women don’t leave abusive relationships and it occurs in 99 percent of all cases of domestic violence.”
This will be Washington’s third year designing for Purple Purse and her first time working with Aquatalia, the footwear company that is making it’s foray into handbags.
Washington’s exclusive design is set to go on sale for $595 at bloomingdales.com and its 59th Street New York flagship this month.
Aquatalia has pledged to donate 100 percent of its proceeds to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, where the funds will be distributed to Purple Purse nonprofits serving victims of domestic violence and survivors across the U.S.
