If you’ve watched Scandal, or any of Shonda Rhimes’ dramas, chances are you’ve seen a steamy sex scene or two. Think Olivia and Fitz. Olivia and Jake.
In a roundtable interview with BuzzFeed Brews with Facebook Live, new mom Kerry Washington revealed that she actually enjoys filming her character’s steamy moments.
“It’s freeing to play a character who is messy and fully human, who has big feelings and a big life,” she said. “The fact that my character has such a sense of passion is exciting as an actor. It’s thrilling to figure that stuff out and take those kinds of risks.”
Actress Viola Davis, who joined Washington and Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo in the conversation, revealed that this coming season, Olivia Pope won’t be the only of Rhimes lead character having all the fun. Davis’ character Annalise Keating in the new drama, How To Get Away With Murder, is no prude.—a trait she also finds liberating.
“It has been freeing because it’s terrifying,” said Davis. “Whoever we are in our sexual lives, which is very private, has to be public. It’s also very freeing to play the why she is that sexual.”
Although Washington enjoys acting out Olivia’s “big feelings” she, like the rest of us, believes homegirl needs some guidance. “Go to therapy,” was her response when asked what advice she would give Olivia. “If she was my girlfriend, I would be like, ‘Girl, there is this guy you should call…”
Ditto, Kerry.
