It appears former BET 106 & Park host Keshia Chanté ended her engagement this past summer for good reason.
According to TMZ Sports, the television personality and singer presented enough evidence for the arrest of her ex-fiancé, Ray Emery on Sept 18. They report that Chanté initially went to authorities seeking a restraining order against the former NHL player, claiming he had abused her several times from July to Sept 2016.
Sources claim Chanté presented what she believed to be “hard proof” —and cops determined there was enough evidence to warrant an arrest for assault with a weapon and uttering a threat. Emery has since be released on bail and is awaiting trial in Hamilton, Ontario.
In August —after doing two bridal magazine shoots— the 29-year-old shared that her seven-year relationship with Emery was over.
“Although it is an honor to grace the cover of Today’s Bride, it is also bittersweet because I decided to not get married,” Chanté said in a lengthy post.
“It hasn’t been easy. It’s a hurtful, gut wrenching experience. I gave it a long hard look and had to make the most painful decision of my life but I know in my heart, it was the right one. I was 21 years old when I began dating Ray. We were together for seven years. I spent the majority of my 20’s with my first real boyfriend and the reality is, what you choose to accept at 21, is not necessarily the same for 28, or forever. I was unhappy for quite some time but I believed loyalty and patience took precedence over my own contentment.”
Adding, “I was no longer willing to accept less than what I deserved. So many of us get caught up in the pressure & expectations to get married. We should follow our hearts and make decisions for ourselves —not to appease social norms, or try to appear ‘perfect’ for others.”
