Kevin Hart received a standing ovation on Sunday when he appeared at the People’s Choice Awards to accept his award for Comedy Act of 2019.
It was the actor’s first appearance since September, when his car accident left him with major injuries requiring weeks of rehabilitation.
During Hart’s speech, the comedian thanked God and his family, saying, “First and foremost, thank God, because I definitely don’t have to be here. Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more. It makes me appreciate the things that really matter: family.”
A source recently told People that the actor has been extremely focused on recovery, dedicating himself to regular physical therapy.
“He works very hard. It’s obvious that his determination has helped him tremendously,” the source told the publication.
In late October, Hart opened up about the accident, sharing a poignant video of his recovery.
“When God talks, you gotta listen,” he said in the video, which was shared to Instagram. “I honestly feel like God told me to sit down. When you’re moving too fast and doing too much sometimes you can’t see the things that you’re meant to see. After my accident, I see things differently.”
