He is arguably the hardest working brother in Hollywood, and we dare you to try and stop him.
This week’s issue of The Hollywood Reporter features a lengthy profile of The Wedding Ringer star, in which he talks about everything from Ferguson to childhood hijinks to the comedians that he most admires (Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Martin Lawrence and Dave Chapelle).
Though a long-time admirer of Cosby, Hart hasn’t reached a definitive stance on the sexual assault allegations that are swirling.
“Right now, it’s a lot of speculation,” he said. “All I can do is just say my prayers, and my wishes go out to all of the women who are potentially involved. His personal life has nothing to do with me. I can’t control it. I will never try. It doesn’t stop me from being an admirer of his work. His work and his personal life are two separate things.”
He goes on to talk about the mainstream appeal that a lot of Black actors in Hollywood must address. It’s been a long road for Hart, who has been trying to break into the business for more than a decade. In recent years, he has quickly gathered a large White following but, like Rock, he said that he doesn’t get caught up in the “crossover” aspect of the industry.
“It’s always about us crossing over,” he said, pointing to Rock’s recent essay in The Hollywood Reporter. “You never hear about it going the other way. You look at concerts and the touring industry, and the people who buy those tickets are urban crowds. It’s crazy the numbers I’ve done on tour: You’re talking about guy who does 40,000 to 50,000 people a weekend.”
Though some would see those numbers and feel like they’ve “made it,” Hart shows no sign of slowing down. Why stop, he said, when he has this momentum going?
We’re very glad to hear that there is no end in sight!
