Kim Kardashian is caught up in a Twitter beef with the co-founder of Donda’s House, the non-profit organization created and named after her husband Kanye West’s mother.
The feud now appears to put the future of the organization in jeopardy.
In a statement released Sunday morning, Donda’s House announced that it was changing its name and disassociating itself from West after activist and hip-hop artist Rhymefest got into a Twitter spat with Kardashian. The spat was over Rhymefest’s criticism of West’s recent contributions to the organization.
“Due to recent events that have occurred over the last 48 hours, we have decided to no longer use the name Donda’s House, Inc,” the statement, released on Twitter, said. “This has been an incredibly difficult decision but the social media quotes from Kim Kardashian West, as well as the expressed interested of her family running the organization, has brought us to this decision.“
On Saturday, Rhymefest used a beef that seemingly sprung up over the weekend between Drake, rapper Pusha T, and Kanye West to complain that West had been missing in action when it came to the running of the organization.
“I’m asking Drake to help the part of Chicago Kanye has Abandoned! Please contact Donda’s House,” Rhymefest tweeted at Drake.
He also asked Drake to cut him a check from the money West apparently owed Drake to “help us rebuild Kanye’s mother’s house for the youth of Chicago.”
He added: “I spoke to Kanye about it. His response was ‘fuck the youth of Chicago.’”
The Kardashian-West camp stayed mostly quiet until Kim took to Twitter in a thread that blasted Rhymefest for his disloyalty and mishandling on the organization.
“You better believe I will make it my mission to take Donda’s House from you and let my children run it the way it should be run!” she said in one of the tweets.
In response, again on Twitter, Rhymefest posted a statement directed at Kardashian, saying in part, “How can you criticize an organization you’ve never been to OR that you’ve never even talked to the Executive Director or any of the team…I actually knew and was mentored by Dr. Donda West personally and have met and spoke to hundreds of her students and mentees who not only support the work that we are doing in Chicago but compel it. ”
Kanye himself has remained mum about the fallout, especially following the organization’s decision to disassociate from him.
Donda’s House, a non-profit co-founded by Kanye and Rhymefest, which seeks to create a collaborative and creative environment to encourage local young artists. The foundation was set up in honor of West’s mother, a respected Chicago educator who died in 2007.
