ESSENCE’s online entertainment editor Yolanda Sangweni spoke with Lupita Nyong’o on the Black Women in Hollywood red carpet and acknowledged her impact on the natural hair community: “I’m seeing [the influence] right now,” she said as she pointed to Sangweni’s side-parted teeny afro.
The 12 Years A Slave actress shined with a sparkling jeweled headband.
Speaking on the versatility of her style, she said: “Our hair is like clay. You can mold it into whatever you want it to be!”
She also shouted-out her super-talented stylists, Larry Sims and Ted Gibson, who “take it to another level.” We were also feeling Nyong’o’s cooper-toned mani, likely by her go-to manicurist, New York Fashion Week regular, Deborah Lippmann.
The live stream of the 7th annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood red-carpet aired Thursday at 2:30 p.m. EST. Catch a recap of the action here.
