So we have a question people. What is winning? Is it coming in first place? Is it achieving the goal? Is it realizing the dream? Is it conquering all? Or is it a commitment to the dream, the goal, the plan, in the face of setbacks, opposition, and all kind of adversity? Is winning constantly progressing, even if you have yet to reach the mark? Is winning changing your frame of mind, your conversation, and your practices in order to get to the successes?
We’re just trying to gain some perspective on what winning and succeeding really is.
We had some professional and personal goals at the start of this year. And of course, as many of us do, we put a timeline on when and how these goals needed to be realized. Although we had many, it seems like one of them in particular, is what we put most of our immediate energy into. While we were trying to play God over our life and predict or establish the what, why, how and when, the goals we gave less energy to were met — while the one we gave most of our energy to was not. And as our humanness would have it, we were completely disappointed about the one goal that was not realized on schedule with our precise specification, while we over looked the few really important other goals that were realized. Oops, our bad.
Which brings me back to the question, what is winning? And I think I know the answer now. Winning is planning and preparing and persevering, and staying your course no matter what. Winning is not always reaching the goal on the timeline that you set, but more committing to reach it even if the timeline must change. Winning is sometimes losing a battle, but fighting until the end of the war. Winning is sometimes reaching the smaller goals and being just as proud and excited before you get to that major goal.
Winning is believing that you will win someday, even if you don’t today. Winning is genuinely being grateful for every bit of progress. Winning is lifting your hands or bowing your head and saying thank you for every little blessing so you maintain the right attitude and perspective when you get to the bigger blessings. A real winner is first one in their heart, and in their mind, before it becomes their reality. A winner looks at a loss, a minor or major setback, as just another step in the climb to success. but a real winner never stops climbing, never stops progressing, never stops pushing, never stops trying, never stops believing, never stops fighting, never loses sight of the dream or the goal, ever. A winner is thankful for every step climbed because it’s acknowledgment that there is progress and it’s a process, but every step higher gets you closer to your goal.
So folks, keep on reaching. Keep on going. Keep on climbing. Keep on being thankful for every step higher. You’re already a winner and with a plan, perseverance, but most importantly faith, you’re gonna reach that goal.
You can do it. We believe in you.
