Thursday night, New Orleans residents and fans of Master P gathered for a fun celebrity basketball game that included P’s son Romeo Miller, Ray J, and Silkk the Shocker.
Prior to the start of the game Master P paid tribute to Dequante Hobbs, Jr. by bringing his family onto the court, where Dequante’s mother was given a Courage Award.
Affectionately known to friends and family as Lil’ DQ, 7-year-old Dequante was killed by a stray bullet in May while eating cake at his kitchen table. He was reportedly hit by the stray bullet when a fight broke out over a dice game near his home.
Master P was also honored by the city of New Orleans during the game, where he was recognized for his philanthropy and constant work in the community.
And, while the game was a great way to kick off ESSENCE Fest, it was wonderful to see New Orleans and Master P come together to honor Dequante and to continue fighting the gun violence that tragically cut his life short.
