The newly-established Global Mixed Gender Basketball (GMGB) League is continuing to take the sports world by storm and their latest signee is certainly proof.
After announcing the signing of former NBA star Ron Artest earlier this week, GMGB president Percy “Master P” Miller has confirmed that he’s tapped WNBA icon Lisa Leslie as head coach for his team, the New Orleans Gators.
“I’m proud to be the coach, the face of this team and organization,” Leslie said in a statement. “I love that this league stands for equality and giving back. I can’t wait until September 23rd so the world can witness history as we put some of the best pro co-ed talent on the same court at one time in Las Vegas.”
Miller bringing on Leslie to head up the team brings things full circle for both, as the two have a history in sports that dates back to their days as a professional basketball players who once went head to head on the court during the NBA off-season.
“I had a chance to experience her hard work and competitiveness first-hand,” Miller said. “I played her during the summer of my pro career; she’s smart, she knows basketball and she’s a beast on the court. That’s the kind of spirit we need in our Gator’s organization.”
Fans and sports enthusiasts alike can look forward to getting a glimpse at what the league has to offer when the first GMGB exhibition game touches down in Las Vegas on September 23.
