Meagan Good has been unapologetically vocal about her and husband DeVon Franklin’s decision to practice abstinence before marriage.
The couple’s love is deeply rooted in their faith and their beliefs in the power of abstinence, and they really dig into their beliefs in a new sit down with Oprah Winfrey on her SuperSoul Sunday special. During their intimate interview, they address why abstinence was so important for their celebrating growth as a couple and how they faced it with no fear. When Winfrey asks Good about many womens’ shared fear that choosing to be abstinent will mean losing a good man, her response was spot on.
“If someone does not think that I am worthy of wanting to be the best version of myself and wanting to get healing and wanting to set myself up for success, if they won’t do that with me, then I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with them,” she says. “And I certainly don’t want to spend three or four years wasting my life with them.”
Franklin, a man of God both in and out of the pulpit, admits that he faced his own fair shares of struggles when dealing with his demons before becoming dedicated to his decision to wait.
“When I got in high school, I didn’t wait,” he says, “but I was still telling people that I was waiting because I didn’t have enough courage to let people know that I made a different choice in my life…So I was teaching people how to live, but I felt like I was doing that publicly, but privately I was doing something different. And the public person and the private person were at war. For me, I wasn’t at peace.”

Good has had to deal with many struggles after going public about her decision to wait.
Countless times, the 35-year-old has had to defend herself from harsh critics who question her sincerity in her Christian walk but Good knows that her decision was one that helped to weed out the men who weren’t meant for her.
“If [a man] does leave me because I’m not worth him waiting in his eyes then he’s not my husband,” she added.
Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin appear on a new episode of SuperSoul Sunday on Sunday, August 28, at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on OWN.
