Michelle Obama has announced the name and release date of her much-anticipated memoir.
The former First Lady — who is also the First African-American to ever hold that position in U.S. history — will release her memoir “Becoming” on November 13, 2018, according to her publisher Penguin Random House.
Chronicling her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to the demands of career, motherhood and being in the public eye, the book will explore how Obama became one of the most admired and iconic women in the world.
“Writing ‘Becoming’ has been a deeply personal experience,” Obama said. “It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life. In this book, I talk about my roots and how a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.”
Obama will also embark on a U.S. and international book tour to promote the book.
Penguin Random House won the rights to both former President Barack Obama and the former First Lady’s memoirs for a record-breaking $65 million dollar deal, Bloomberg reported. Their payment was more than any other U.S. presidential memoirs.
Her memoir will be published simultaneously in 24 languages around the world.
