Singer and actress Michelle Williams took to Instagram to share the news of the death of her beloved father, Dennis Williams. He was 68 years old.
“I just don’t know what to say or where to start,” she wrote. “Daddy, you fought harder than those of us that are in good health! For 15 years, you FOUGHT!!! You truly outlived moments where we thought you wouldn’t make it!!”
15 years ago, Dennis suffered a stroke and had been dealing with health issues since then. He was also diabetic. According to MadameNoire, her father’s health pushed Michelle to become an ambassador for the American Heart Association’s “Power to End Stroke” campaign.
In her heartfelt Instagram post, Michelle also wrote, “Mommy said last night she sang songs to you and you looked so content and had a look of peace in your eyes. You weren’t in any pain either!! The Lord took you in his arms this morning and I’m so thankful that you are resting in Him!!! I love you Daddy!!!! Nov 13, 1952-Dec 20, 2020.”
Beyonce’s mother, Tina Lawson, who worked with Destiny’s Child as a stylist, shared kind words with Michelle after she shared the sad news. “My Belle, I am so sorry !!! Your dad was a true warrior,” she wrote. “Yes He is resting now and is with your beloved granny. I am so glad we had the time together in Hawaii, and that we talked for an hour last night we love you so much.”
Michelle has a memoir titled Checking In: How Getting Real About Depression Saved My Life—and Can Save Yours that’s due out in May 2021. In it, she will open up about her experiences with depression and anxiety.
“We have to check in,” Michelle shared with ESSENCE in an exclusive interview. “We have to check in with ourselves. We have to check in with others and we have to check in with God.”
We are sending our sincerest condolences to the Williams family during this difficult time.
